RELEGATED BERKO COME OUT FIGHTING ONCE MORE

- By Andrew Sparrow

RELEGATED Berkhamsted came out on top in the sunshine at the Glencar Community Stadium, with Chris Devane’s men the deserved winners following a strong second-half performance.

The first 45 minutes had a typical end-of-season feel to proceedings, with neither side playing much football.

However, on the stroke of half-time, Jahvan Davidson-Miller gave the Canaries the lead as the home team’s defence failed to deal with a bouncing ball.

The introduction of Connor Toomey and Ross Oulton gave Berko control of the midfield and goals from defender Luke Massingham, who the net from inside the box, and attacking midfielder Tom Newman from out wide completed the turnaround and put the Comrades 2-1 ahead.

Berko striker Max Bustamante, who was as lively as always for the home side, won but then missed a penalty and that in turn led to a nervous close to the game.

However, Berkhamsted held on to record another home win to move up a place in the table to third-bottom following confirmation of their relegation at the end of last month.

Two league fixtures remain for the Comrades, at second-placed AFC Telford United next weekend and then finishing the campaign at home to Halesowen Town – who are currently ninth – on April 27.
