BISHOP AUCKLAND blew a two-goal half-time lead at home to Whickham only to be rescued by JJ Bartliff who converted a 54th minute corner to seal a precious 3-2 win.

Bartliff’s 24th minute opener and James Risborough’s header put Bishops in the driving seat, before captain Dale Burrell and Scott Robson levelled up for the Lang Jacks.

The Bishops remain level on points at the top with Shildon, who beat Birtley Town 3-0, with two games in hand of the Railwaymen thanks to Andrei Ardelean’s treble.

The biggest crowd of the day, 414, saw ten-man Heaton Stanningto­n beat North Shields 4-2; Sean Reid, Leighton Hopper, Jay Hornsby and Connor Lamb all scoring.

Bottom two Sunderland RCA and Tow Law both fell to heavy defeats, RCA 7-0 at home to Penrith and the Lawyers 5-0 at West Allotment Celtic.

Kevin Burgess’s 63rd minute goal gave Redcar Athletic a 1-0 win over Seaham Red Star, while Nathan Greenwood’s late double saw third-top West Auckland defeat Carlisle City 3-1.

Wythenshaw­e leapfrogge­d their rivals to take top spot on goal difference following a 1-1 draw at Burscough. However, they required a Fraser Goodwin goal four minutes from time to cancel out John McGrath’s opener. Both results play into the hands of Bury who sit a point behind the top two with a game in hand, after their home tie against Padiham was postponed due to a waterlogge­d pitch.

Tom Croughan scored what turned out to be the winner two minutes from time as AFC Liverpool held on to a 3-2 victory against Glossop North End. Adam Moorcroft and Luke Porter scored the other goals for Liverpool, who survived a late scare as Harry Freedman netted late for Glossop to create a grandstand finish.

Meanwhile, Gareth Hill scored a brace inside 13 minutes as Barnoldswi­ck Town

secured a 5-2 victory against FC Isle of Man. Other goal scorers for Barnoldswi­ck were Jack Foster, Ryan Moore and Conor High. Steven Yawson scored a late brace as Kendal Town beat Cheadle Town

4-1, while Matthew Dudley and James Bailey also netted.

Ramsbottom United were the biggest winners with a 5-1 win at Pilkington as Oumar Camara scored four and Roman Allen the other.

CHAMPIONS Congleton Town lifted the league trophy after romping to a 5-1 victory at Dudley Town.

The damage was done in the opening ten minutes as George Sankey, Ethan Hartshorn and Dan Cocks fired the Bears into a three-goal lead.

Max McCarthy added another before the break with Tom Hampton rounding things off late in the second half ahead of Abdul Bashiru’s consolatio­n for the home side, who had Luke Hennessey sent off in the closing stages.

Congleton boss Richard Duffy said: “I thought that was the best we’ve played all season by a country mile. We said beforehand that there were a lot of fans coming down, spending a lot of money, and we didn’t want to send them home with a loss.”

Behind them, Darlaston Town bolstered their play-off hopes with a 2-0 victory over visitors Whitchurch Alport, two goals in three second-half minutes from Jack Downing and Keiron Miller sealing the points.

Highgate United’s 7-0 drubbing of

Wolverhamp­ton Casuals kept them in the mix with Ryan Harkin’s double leading the way but fellow hopefuls Studley went down 2-1 at second-placed Lichfield City, where Joe Haines struck the winner.

Callum Parker scored four and Sam Unwin a brace as Northwich Victoria eased to a 7-0 victory over Bewdley Town.

HELLENIC LEAGUE

WORCESTER City won the Premier Division championsh­ip with five games to spare with a 1-0 victory at thirdfrom-bottom Thornbury on Tuesday.

Chris Knight’s goal confirmed City’s first league title in 45 years, having won the Southern League Premier Division in 1979 with a 3-0 win over Kettering Town at their former St George’s Lane home.

On Thursday, runners-up Corsham Town beat visitors Brimscombe & Thrupp 5-1 thanks to Ryan Bath (two), Kye Simpson, Nathan Davis and Harlie Price.

On the same night, Highworth beat visitors Cinderford 3-0 with Rob Dean, Luke Whelan and Dan Grieve scoring.

Yesterday, Brimscombe lost 4-0 at Highworth with David Pratt scoring all four. Goals from Ethan Hayes and Ryan Hillier gave hosts Cinderford a 2-0 win over Wantage Town.

Royal Wootton Bassett came from behind to win 2-1 at Slimbridge thanks to an Alfie Presley double including a penalty.

A 90th-minute goal from Jake Rhodes saw Tuffley Rovers beat Hereford Lads Club 1-0.

In Division One, hosts Calne Town saw off Devizes Town 4-1 with Fraser Blake, Oliver Crosbie-Clarke, Ackeem Stewart and Josh Bright finding the net.

Toby Mann, Brad Phillips and Matti Klich were on target for Newent Town in their 3-1 win at FC Stratford. Southam United won 3-2 at Stonehouse Town.
