STEYNING Town are now just one win from the title after a stunning 4-0 away victory over second-placed Newhaven. Harry Shooman netted twice for the league leaders with Mark Goldson and Charlie Weller also on target in the top-of-the-table clash.

Fourth-placed Crowboroug­h remain the only other team that can catch Steyning after beating Pagham 2-0 away. Lucas Murrain was on the scoresheet for the visitors and despite trailing Steyning by seven points they still have two games in hand on the top-placed side.

Third-placed Eastbourne Town were 4-0 winners at home to Horsham YMCA

with James Hull grabbing a brace for the home side and Haywards Heath’s playoff hopes were dealt a huge blow as they lost 1-0 at home to AFC Varndeania­ns.

Elsewhere, bottom side AFC Uckfield Town’s relegation was confirmed after they suffered a 4-2 defeat at home to Midhurst & Easebourne.

Harley Damario struck twice for Saltdean United as they secured safety with a dramatic 4-3 home win over fifthplace­d Hassocks and Lingfield ran out 3-2 winners at home to Little Common.

In the day’s other games, Sam Schaaf and Oli Leslie were Crawley Down Gatwick’s scorers in a 2-1 away success at Bexhill, ten-man Loxwood lost 2-0 at home to Eastbourne United and Shoreham v Peacehaven & Telscombe

finished in a 1-1 draw.

A solitary Oliver Jenkins goal on 34 minutes gave AFC Stoneham a 1-0 home win against Isle of Wight based
