- By Ed Colman

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH ended their season with a surprise win at promotion hopefuls Braintree Town, who will face Bath City in the play-offs.

Late drama at the Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium, saw Sports reduced to nine men, with the hosts levelling in the 90th minute only for the visitors to hitback for all three points.

Braintree started brightly with Freddie Sears standing out. The forward bagged the first goal of the afternoon in the 19th minute when Jayden Davis crossed for Sears to fire home.

Sports battled back four minutes before the break. Braintree failed to clear Alfie Bendle’s corner which dropped to the feet of Yahya Bamba, who fired the ball into the top-right of the net.

Braintree started the second half slowly and paid for it, after 50 minutes, when Bamba turned provider for Bendle, who finished past Jack Sims.

The visitors looked to be heading to a win before Bamba picked up a second yellow for kicking the ball away in the 82nd minute.

Six minutes later Joe Grimwood’s headerlooked to have earned the Iron a draw before Imran Uche restored his side’s lead in the 92nd minute. Brad Barry then saw red as Eastbourne held on to a hard-earned three points. STAR MAN: Pierce Bird (Eastbourne Borough)
