■ PREMIER South champions Wellingborough Town are aiming for a treble after being reinstated into the League Cup on Friday afternoon.

Division One side Saffron Dynamo

beat Wellingborough 5-3 on penalties in the quarter-finals after a 1-1 home draw on February 24 and then pulled off a shock, hammering Premier North Ashby Ivanhoe 6-0 away in the semis on April 10 – but it was then found Dynamo had fielded Jamie Hoyland in both rounds, despite him having already played in the cup for Leicester St Andrews.

After the league booted Dynamo out for fielding a cup-tied player, the club appealed to the FA. However, the appeal was dismissed on Friday and arrangements quickly made for reinstated Wellingborough to meet Ashby Ivanhoe in the semi final at Kirby Muxloe’s

ground just 24 hours later.

Wellingborough won 5-0 with a Nehemiah Richard-Noel hat-trick and Brett Solkhon and Tom Iaciofano goals.

The Doughboys, who beat Sherwood Colliery in the Premier Division Champions Cup last Saturday, will now meet Skegness Town in the final at Harrowby United’s ground on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, kick off 3pm.

Yesterday, in the last top division game of the season, Easington Sports beat visitors Yaxley 3-2 in Premier South with Ben Doak, Callum Convey (penalty) and Luke Swann scoring.

Chris Funnell has quit as manager of Premier North runners-up Lincoln United while chairman Allen Crombie is also leaving.

Crombie said: “Chris Funnell, his staff and the players have worked tirelessly throughout a season in which they’ve played nearly 60 games, competing to the very end in four competitions.”

Daventry Town are looking for a new manager after Daren Young resigned after nearly a year in charge of the Premier South outfit.

Former Irchester United and Burton Park Wanderers boss Young was appointed last May.

He told club officials he was quitting due to work commitments.

Newark & Sherwood United will groundshare with Division One Harrowby next season. The Highwaymen spent the past two seasons at Collingham.
