JON’S JOB OPEN AFTER RAMS FALL
JON UNDERWOOD says his decision to step down as manager of Beaconsfield Town came long before his failure to save the Rams from relegation.
Underwood’s side slipped out of Southern League Premier South after their must-win clash with fellow strugglers Plymouth Parkway last Saturday ended in a 1-1 draw.
The 49-year-old took over at Holloways Park alongside Neil Baker 14 months ago after spending nineand-a-half years together in charge of Slough Town.
But after Baker announced shortly afterwards that he was to take a break from the game, Underwood took sole charge and steered the Rams to safety after a strong finish in the final two months of last season.
A poor start to this campaign was then followed by a mid-season turn in form, but a lack of consistency saw them dragged back into the relegation mire.
Upon his departure, Underwood
tweeted: “My decision to leave Beaconsfield was a considered one that was taken and shared with the club before the end of the season.
“My footballing ambitions and desire to be successful are stronger than ever and I will now focus my efforts on finding the right challenge for next season.”
Chairman Chris Coyle confirmed he was fully aware of Underwood’s intention to leave, adding: “Jon had already advised us of his intentions in recent weeks, so this was no surprise.
“He is an absolute gentleman, who we have enjoyed working with this season and we wish him every success with his future football career.
“We now turn our attentions to the next chapter in the club’s history, focused on creating an exciting, sustainable future at Holloways Park.”
