‘Nevis at Night’ no more this year

-

A FUNDRAISING walk in memory of a Fort William man has been cancelled due to low numbers.

Organisers, Lochaber Together, which fundraises locally for Cancer Research UK, made the ‘difficult decision’ to postpone the event due to take place on Saturday (September 19).

It is hoped it can be rescheduled for next year.

The five-kilometre walk, ‘Nevis at Night’, will see a group make their way through Fort William before heading up the town’s Cow Hill in memory of Brian Dawson, right, a stalwart of Lochaber Together, who lost his own battle with cancer in May.

Adam Ramsey, chairman of the fundraising group, said: ‘We are very sorry we have had to take the decision to cancel.

‘Brian was a core member of the group and we miss him.

‘ We have plans in place for other fundraisers and will look again at the Nevis at Night event for 2016.

‘If anyone would like to get involved in supporting Cancer Research UK either by organising their own fundraiser, or by becoming involved with the Lochaber Together group we would love to hear from them.’

Dorothy Roger, Lochaber’s local fundraising manger for Cancer Research UK, added: ‘The Nevis at Night route over the shoulder of Cow Hill was fantastic and I think people would really have enjoyed it.

‘However, a new event takes a lot of organising and calls on lots of volunteer marshalls and other support to make it happen.

‘ With two weeks to go it isn’t fair to ask people to set time aside for the event when participant numbers are so low.’
