Family firm gets down to business shredding

-

A FAMILY removal and storage business in Oban has set up a second company delivering a comprehensive shredding service.

Simply Shredding was formed after removal business MacQueen Bros Ltd saw a gap in the market for a local file disposal service which was previously being done by firms 100 miles away.

With support from Argyll and Bute council’s Business Gateway service, MacQueen Bros began focusing on Simply Shredding and is now working with clients from across the Highlands and islands.

Director Mark MacQueen said: ‘MacQueen Bros removal and storage business has been going since 1983 and we have worked hard to establish an honest and trusted reputation for quality service in an industry that is frequently perceived to have reliability issues. We had expanded the storage side of the business which was originally based in a small warehouse to now having our own purpose-built facility.

‘Although we have been offering an archive storage and retrieval service for a number of years in order that offices can free up space within their building, the confidential disposal of files that are no longer required has up until now been carried out by companies outwith the area.

‘ We felt there was a need to provide this service in the local area at a low cost and so we set up Simply Shredding.’

Simply Shredding offers both home and office shreds, working with a range of clients including families who are moving house to large organisations needing a monthly service. Every piece of paper Simply Shredding deals with is then recycled allowing companies to also fulfil their environmental policy.

Mark added: ‘The help and advice provided by Business Gateway has been invaluable and I found the website to be clear and easy to use with guides available for each step.

‘Having the information on business plans, financial planning and tax advice available in one place was fantastic. The one-to- one advice from my adviser was also great and I feel supported and aided by the team and would recommend any- one with a business idea to contact them for advice.’

Graham MacQueen, also a director of the firm, added: ‘We are the only shredding business in Argyll which is advantageous as it allows us to keep costs to a minimum, being based here rather than in the central belt.’

Angela Vernel, business adviser for Business Gateway said: ‘MacQueen Bros had a good business idea and was clear on how to progress plans. The support we provided helped give the firm the confidence to establish the business and we wish them every success.’
