Sail back in time with trip on the Waverley

A WORLD famous paddle steamer will be sailing from Oban, Mull and Tobermory next month to celebrate 70 years since its launch.

The Waverley will sail for four days to commemorat­e its anniversar­y, offering those on board the chance to see whirlpools, enjoy a night out on the evening cruise and admire beautiful scenery.

Passengers can cruise from Oban on Saturday June 4 over the sea to Skye and from Loch Nevis to Inverie on Sunday June 5.

On Monday June 6, there is a visit to Tobermory or cruise to Tiree and a sail round the Mull of Kintyre on Tuesday June 7.

Ross Cochrane, captain of the Waverley, said: ‘ The Waverley is a very special ship, full of history and charm and there is a trip for everyone – young and old – to enjoy.

‘Every passenger helps this beautiful ship to continue to sail and I would encourage everyone to come and enjoy a trip on her. Some of the best scenery in the world is in the west coast of Scotland and Waverley offers a unique way to experience it. I look forward to welcoming you on board.’

The Waverley, the last sea-going paddle steamer, was launched on October 2, 1946. She made her maiden voyage on June 16, 1947.
