Etive Vikings host last mini rugby festival of the season

-

ETIVE Vikings RFC hosted the last Mini Rugby Dalriada Festival of the season in Taynuilt on Sunday. Teams from Oban Lorne, Mid Argyll, Isle of Mull, Lochaber and Etive Vikings attended the festival.

In the P4/5 age group Isle of Mull RFC won the competition by one point from hosts Etive Vikings after winning two and drawing one of their fixtures.

Mull impressively came back from 5-2 down to beat Lochaber 7-5 in what proved to be the most entertaining match of the day.

Mid Argyll RFC won their first Dalriada for a long time by winning the P6/ 7 age group. Mid Argyll won all of their games going through a tough battle against Lochaber and Etive Vikings.

This puts an end to this season’s mini rugby festivals in Argyll.

All partner clubs have hosted at least one very successful festival this season with growing numbers over the course of the year.

Next year it is hoped that Kintyre and Islay will join the teams taking part with both boasting very healthy training numbers after re- establishing their mini rugby sections.

Oban Lorne RFC

OBAN Lorne RFC’s competitive season has come to an end with the Green Machine finishing fourth in West Division 1, winning eight and losing nine of their 17 fixtures this season.

Unfortunately the home fixture with Cambuslang will remain unfulfilled on the fixture list. The Oban squad now turn their attention to this Saturday’s Isle of Mull 7s. Oban hope to have a strong team available for the tournament.

Oban will also be taking part in the Islay Beach Rugby Festival on June 11.
