Motorists are driven to distraction by bad road

DRIVERS in Oban have raised concerns about the state of the road surface and traffic flow at the junction of Soroba Road and Lynn Road.

The Oban Times has received a number of complaints.

One driver, who asked not to be named, said: ‘ While the potholes the length of Soroba Road are becoming a serious issue, particularly at the junction with the high school, my main issue is that the road is always congested.

‘At morning rush hour, I have seen cars at a virtual standstill all the way back to the waterworks as you head out of Oban towards Kilmore.

‘Other than the traffic lights at the high school junction, there seems to be no apparent reason for this.

‘The traffic lights at the junction often seem to be out of sequence, so maybe that is the cause.

‘There has been talk in the town that what is needed there is a roundabout, which would no doubt help the traffic flow in the area.’

After contacting Argyll and Bute Council about the concerns, a spokesperson told

The Oban Times: ‘We are aware that this [congestion] is a matter of concern and are looking at adjusting the sequence of the lights to optimise the flow of traffic while at the same time maintaining pedestrian safety.

‘There are no current plans for a roundabout.

‘The roads are maintained on a regular basis but if people have any particular concerns they should get in touch with the council.’
