Youngsters shine at school sports

-

YOUNG athletes from seven Argyll primary schools had great fun at their summer sports days last week.

Strath of Appin Primary School held a joint sports day with Achaleven, Kilchrenan, Barcaldine and Lismore Primaries on Tuesday May 31.

Special guest at the event was Wilma Lawrie, the gold, silver and bronze paralympic swimmer who had travelled from Edinburgh to present certificates to the best boy and girl in each year group and the nursery.

Commenting on the event, acting head teacher Christine MacLean said: ‘It was a funfilled event enjoyed by all. The planning and preparation all paid off and the parent council kept everyone refreshed with tea and coffee and delicious home baking throughout the day.’

Also on Tuesday, Rockfield Primary held their sports day.

The school’s head teacher, Caroline Fothergill said: ‘ We were delighted to host our annual sports day, which is a real community event for Rockfield.

‘The children did us proud with their enthusiasm, good sportsmanship and representing the school so positively.’

Meanwhile, Park Primary had its sports day on Friday June 3.

Head teacher Gillian Carney told The Oban Times that the event was ‘ a highly successful day’.

She went on: ‘It was excellent and well supported by parents. The sun shone all day and the children had a great time.’
