Whales and dolphins in spotlight

-

BUN-SGOIL Shlèite Primary School pupils enjoyed a visit from Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) staff.

P1/3e and P1/4g and their teachers Janice Dougan and Gwen Culbertson took part in the visit on June 7.

A spokesman for the Skye school said: ‘It was a fantastic visit.’

The pupils measured out the size of a porpoise, bottlenose dolphin and Orca as well as learning about different sea habitats and what kinds of cetaceans live in them.

Pupils were able to handle and learn about ear bones, ribs and vertebrae, baleen and teeth, from Sperm whales to Minke, from Sei whales to common dolphins.

Everyone agreed it was an enriching experience for staff and pupils.
