A DAY of fun and education was held in Claggan last weekend as a charity tried to teach the importance of eating well and wasting less.

Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) organised the fun day which welcomed more than 60 people and was supported by Thrive in Lochaber, the Greenfinger project and Thai restaurant Sugar and Spice, among others.

Rebecca Thoms, staff member at LEG, said: ‘It was a real community effort. This was our first fun day and it went really well, so hopefully there will be an opportunity to repeat the process.’

LEG aims to encourage people to think about how their activities impact on the environment and what they can do to improve that.

Ms Thoms explained: ‘It can be difficult for people who want to cook from scratch to know where to start. We wanted to teach people how to access food and how to manage waste.

‘We had a smoothie bike and Thrive organised a sugar bingo, where people had to determine which products contain the most sugar, which everyone participated in enjoyed, especially the kids who loved telling off their parents.’
