Skye Camanachd 2 Glasgow Mid Argyll 1

Skye Camanachd are through to the Camanachd Cup quarter-finals after they beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 2-1 in their last 16 replay at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.

The match was played in glorious conditions and Craig Anderson and Euan Forsyth forced good early saves from Skye keeper Iain MacLeod.

Kenny Campbell, playing at full forward for Skye, sent an effort past the post and although the first half was end-to- end, there was little to trouble either keeper other than another Kenny Campbell strike on 41 minutes which was saved with his feet by GMA goalie Jonathon Oates after a Jordan Murchison shot was blocked.

GMA took the lead on 46 minutes when a fierce 25-yard shot from Euan Forsyth beat an unsighted Iain Macleod to put the visitors in front.

The goal seemed to jolt Skye into action and they drew level on 52 minutes.

Will Cowie sent a ball on goal which keeper Oates saved but the ball kicked up and Jordan Murchison scored to make it 1-1.

Skye made changes as the game moved into the final 15 minutes and the switches paid off on 79 minutes. Iain MacLeod struck a long goal-hit which was played on by Kenny Campbell to James Pringle who had been pushed forward from wing centre to wing forward. Pringle crossed to Will Cowie who took a good first touch to beat his man and finished off the best move of the match to put Skye 2-1 in front.

GMA pushed to take the tie into extra-time but it’s Skye who go forward to a quarter-final tie against Newtonmore at the Eilan on Saturday July 9.
