- WITH IAIN RODGER For club info contact Coogie on coogiepots@gmail.com.

CRAIG MacLachlan from Oban’s Senshi Do Kickboxing and Iain Rodger from Oban’s Caledonia Kyokushin Karate have been invited to Japan as part of the GB team to take part in the full contact karate world championships in October this year.

The team of four fighters and a coach have been picked to represent their country but as an amateur sport they have to find their own way there.

If any local businesses can help with donations/sponsorship, Craig and Iain would be very grateful.

Donations have already come in from Midton Acrylics in Lochgilphead, D A MacDonald Contractors Ltd, Lochgilphead, and Wellpark House, Oban. If you can help, please contact Iain on 07584 166542 or iain@ ikku.co.uk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BJJ

IT HAS been a year since Oban BJJ associated itself with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Marcos Nardini.

Club coach Coogie Potter had the following to say when asked how this had affected the club: ‘I had been wanting to get the club associated with a legitimate professor for a long time and although we had a black belt helping out a few times a year I had wanted someone who could commit to us in a more permanent way.

‘From day one it was obvious Marcos was the way ahead for us.

‘His monthly seminars and patience in teaching, along with an easy going Brazilian mentality and attention to detail, was a perfect balance to the different abilities and personalities of our students. I feel this has reflected on my own style of not just BJJ but in teaching as well.

‘Every student that has been with us over the past year has come on quicker than all the years before.

‘The link between us and his other clubs will accumulate this month with two seminars – a No gi seminar on July 16 followed by a weekend barbecue training session with his other clubs in Oban at the end of the month.’
