Doors open on new space for Lochaber women

-

A NEW place for women in Lochaber to get together was officially launched on Friday March 10.

Lochaber Women’s Space was launched with an afternoon of ‘pudding and pampering’ at Lochaber Hope’s premises on Belford Road.

The Women’s Space will be a place for women to meet, chat and take part in activities of their choosing.

Dani Drummon of Lochaber Hope, one of the women involved in setting up the space, said: ‘ We have created a space for women to get together and pioneer their own projects and where they can just be themselves.’

There will be a daily drop-in session from noon until 4pm when women can bring and share ideas.

Some events, including a course about ‘ Taking Control Confidently’ and creative writing sessions, have already taken place and Dani said: ‘Some of the writing has blown us away.’

Although based in the Loch- aber Hope building, the women’s space is an independent initiative which can be used by any women for whatever they wish. ‘They don’t have to be having a hard time but they can get away from any stress they have. It’s a nurturing space,’ said Dani.

Lochaber Hope manager Alyson Smith added: ‘We’ve already had a couple of groups using the space. Older mums with young children don’t feel they fit in with younger mum so they’ve met up to chat in the Women’s Space.’

The service is supported by the Robertson’s Trust which provided funding for a project co- ordinator.

Women are encouraged to get in touch by calling Dani on 07769 153903, emailing lochaber. womens. space@ gmai l. com, visiting the Lochaber Women’s Space Facebook page or dropping in through the week.

During the launch party, there were yoga and zumba taster sessions, massages, advice on how to relax and face masks.

There was also a buffet of puddings and home-baking made by the organisers.
