Cowal Highland Gathering 2017

-

The Cowal Highland Gathering held in Dunoon, Argyll, is the largest, most spectacular Highland games in the world. Nowhere else will you see world-class pipers, dancers and athletes competing on such a scale. It’s an unbeatable event for all the family. Just ask the 23,000 visitors who come here every year to soak up the unique, friendly atmosphere and stunning Highland location. There really is something for everyone, from watching the world championship competitions to running in the 5K fun run. The salute to the Chieftain is one of the highlights. As the sun sets down the Firth of Clyde, the massed pipers and drummers play ‘Highland Laddie’ in unison. It’s an unforgettable experience and a fitting end to this, the most spectacular of Highland games. The kids will love Artie's Tartan Tails, mountain bike displays, the arts and crafts tent, magic shows, puppet shows, face painting and much more! The ceilidh tent is one of the event's huge highlights and if you want even more of that, be sure to get tickets for the Friday night's Gig at the Gathering. The headline act this year is four piece band Tide Lines supported by the ever-popular young Argyll band Heron Valley, who have become firm Cowal Gathering favourites. Also playing will be Trongate Rum Riots, a Glasgow nine-piece band who play their own brand of ‘turbo sea shanties’. As usual, the Gig won’t simply boast top ceilidh music. It will also feature whisky and gin tasting and street food will be available throughout the evening. But hurry, tickets will sell fast. Gig at the Gathering is held on Friday 25th August with the Cowal Highland Gathering is held on Saturday 26th August.
