The Oban Times

Dunbeg people have been kept in the dark

-

Sir, Thank you for letting Dunbeg Community Council and us know about the planning approval for 600 new houses in three phases. Without The Oban

Times, we would not have known. The lack of information from Argyll and Bute Council, Link Group and Transport Scotland to our community council and people who live and work in our village in this whole process has been appalling.

Dunbeg Community Council is the only one that went round and found out what residents and people who work in the village want. The message was very clear: no more houses without proper roads, school and other infrastructure.

We need to find out the following from councillors, Transport Scotland and Link Group.

* What number of each type of housing is being proposed? How many people will be taken off the housing list with these houses?

* What are the plans for the school which we know is near capacity? One rumour circulating is Portakbins and we all know the history of Rockfield School and temporary buildings.

* How does Transport Scotland back a roundabout from the Oban side sometime in the future? How does it think 300-plus extra cars moving morning, lunchtime and evening can get into or out the village using the existing entrance without a roundabout? Has the A85 to be blocked at these times by people trying to get in or out of Dunbeg? Who is the person or persons liable in Transport Scotland if there are injuries or fatalities caused by its advice?

* It has been said that a meeting is being planned for a Friday between 4pm and 6pm to tell people about this. Who is going to come to a meeting at this time? It is clearly more lack of communication. It is clear that everybody who resides and works in Dunbeg needs to get information through their letterbox.

It is clear that the only way forward is to say no to any more houses without meaningful dialogue with Dunbeg Community Council and the residents and those who work in Dunbeg. Bill Harvey, Castle Road, Dunbeg.
