Minister’s walkabout boosts Oban cadets
THE Reverend Christopher ‘Kit’ Jarman, a retired chaplain to Oban Sea Cadets, embarked on a personal endeavour after recently recovering from cancer.
Rev Jarman completed a fivemile walk between Oban War and Peace Museum and Glenburnie House – a single distance of half a mile exactly as measured out by the cadets – along the Corran Esplanade.
He did this 10 times cheered on by a group of Oban Sea Cadets and friends for the total distance of five miles.
This was a tremendous feat of endurance for the clergyman who not so long ago required daily support not only to walk but also to wash and dress.
Rev Jarman raised a fantastic £ 3,500 for Oban Sea Cadets and presented the youngsters with a cheque on Thursday July 6 during their weekly parade night at Tweeddale Street’s Oban Cadet Hall.
