Your columnist is years out of date
Sir, I read Martin Laing’s cheesed- off remarks about early years graduation in his At Random column ( The Oban
Times, July 13). My friend Amie is now aged 24 and I have a photo of her as a beautiful four-year- old in her graduation mortarboard. The custom was new then – that’s how out- of- date he is.
It was explained to me like this: many of these children will never get the chance to graduate from universities.
Now their achievements will be celebrated, too, and their parents will have photos to show to friends.
The occasion was a very happy one of love and valuing of each child. I was glad to be there. Lorna Cammock, by email.
