Runners prepare for island’s marathon

-

RUNNERS in Islay are preparing for the annual marathon that will take place on Sunday September 10.

The event will be in memory of former pupil of Islay High School Menzies MacAffer.

Menzies was a keen runner and served in the Royal Marines. The Menzies MacAffer trophies have been donated by the family and will be given to the first male and female finisher.

The marathon will start at the village hall in Portnahaven at 7.30am, and finish in Port Ellen at the Ramsay Hall.

A free bus will be on hand to pick up any willing participants. It will leave Port Ellen at 6am and will collect competitors on the way.

The marathon costs £30 per person to enter, but relay teams of two to four people can enter for £40.

A 5k run will also take place on Sunday, starting at 11.30am at Bowmore Primary School.

All money raised from the event will go towards trips for Islay High School.

To enter, contact Stephen Harrison on 810239 or 07399614675 or email stephen.harrison@argyll-bute.gov.uk.
