Sunday September 10 Corryhully Bothy, Glen Finnan

A circular walk in a lovely glen, under the McAlpine Viaduct, with views of the big hills around the Coire Thollaidh Horseshoe. Visit the Glenfinnan monument after the walk for a grand view down Loch Shiel.

Start at the car park just before the gate to the estate road at NM906808. Follow the estate road NE, under the railway viaduct. Continue for another 600m and turn right over a bridge. Follow the track N through the forest, close to the River Finnan for about 2½ Km.

On emerging from the forest continue N on the track and cross the footbridge at NM917849. Climb a short slope to reach another track and follow it NE, across the ford or a rickety footbridge over the Allt a’ Choire Charnaig. Continue to the confluence of two rivers at the foot of Coire Thollaidh.

Retrace steps to the ford, then continue SW to Corryhully Bothy at NM912844. A short distance W is the main estate road. Follow it S by the River Finnan back to the start.

Glen Etive – Beinn nan Aighenan and Glas Bheinn Mhor

Start at the Coileitir Farm track, NN136468, where limited parking is available. Head E on the track, cross the River Etive and follow it SW, past Coileitir and cross the Allt nam Meirleach on the footbridge.

Head S on the path up to the col at NN139423, 766m. Descend SE across the slope past a group of lochans on a spur, to reach the col at the foot of the N ridge of Beinn nan Aighenan. Climb the ridge to its summit.

Return to the foot of the N ridge and climb back up to the 766m col. Head E up the ridge, over Meall nan Tri Tighearnan, 892m, and up to the summit of Glas Bheinn Mhor.

Descend N, curving NW and cross the Allt Choire Dhuibh above its confluence with the Allt Mheuran to reach a footpath at NN143441.

Follow the path on the W bank, above the Robbers’ Waterfall and cross the Allt nam Meirleach at the Ford, NN138449. Rejoin the outward route back to Coileitir. Suggested by Anne Scoular; coordinate­d by Suzanne Theobald.
