All hands on deck for RNLI’s Maritime Day’
KYLE of Lochalsh RNLI hosts its Maritime day on Saturday and organisers are hoping for another good turnout for what is the branch’s main annual fundraiser.
‘We are looking to build on the success of last year’s Maritime Day and this year’s will be the biggest yet, with demonstrations from Kyle and Mallaig lifeboats as well as Kyle Fire Brigade,’ said branch press officer Andy MacDonald.
The British Underwater Testing and Evaluation Centre will be present and is once again allowing the public access on to some of its boats.
Coastguard, police and mountain rescue will be there during the day, while musical entertainment will be provided by Lochalsh Junior Pipe Band.
Weather permitting, the local kayaking club will be getting people out on the water while on shore there will be an obstacle race, rope throwing competition and more.
This year there will also be a tractor pulling competition where teams of six people will see how fast they can pull the branch’s launching tractor over a set distance.
The day starts at noon and will be rounded off with the annual Kyle Fire Brigade raft race at 6pm. Anyone wishing to enter the raft race should contact Mike Henderson on 07990 793108 or Kyle Fire Brigade’s Facebook page.
