Ardgour

-

A SPECIAL celebration was in order at the 40th Ardgour Horticultural Show held in Ardgour Memorial Hall on Saturday.

The show encourages people with an interest in gardening, flower arranging, baking and jam-making to get together to not only celebrate these past-times but to help raise money for the Ardgour and Kingairloch churches.

To mark the landmark show and celebrate their commitment of more than 40 years, small gifts were presented to Bill Davidson, and John and Katie Maitland. Chairman John Maitland said: ‘It was lovely to see so many local people there, from children and new babies to older members of our community.

‘The show has always been about bringing people together.’

A farewell gift was also presented to Dugie and Anne MacDonald, who will shortly be moving to Milton Keynes.

John thanked Dugie and Anne for their active support of the show and Dugie for teaching the school children about gardening.

Ardgour Primary School were popular winners of the shield for the best vegetables, while Cathie Carmichael won the overall baking prize despite the best efforts of her niece, Zoe Boyd MacKay.

Keeping it in the family, Betty Boyd was the ‘judges’ choice’ of garden while Alex Boyd won best kept garden. Judges Carolyn Harbison and Les Snelgrove commended Betty for the wide range of plants in her garden.
