Kilchoan

A £1,500 grant from the Scottish charity Paths for All and permission from Ardnamurchan Estate means Kilchoan Primary School pupils will soon have a safer route between the school and their sports hall facilities at the local community centre.

The plan to make an accessible and safer route will mean that the children no longer have to walk along a stretch of winding single-track road which has no pavements or significant verges, and is also the vehicular access road to the community centre, play park, sports field, learning centre and the ferry.

Adults will also benefit from the new route, which joins the back of the Kilchoan Hotel grounds and allows everyone to avoid the narrow road junction with Pier Road.

The grant, which was successfully applied for by West Ardnamurchan Community Development Company, will cover the cost of materials for a bridge over the burn to be reinstated along with new pedestrian gates and a pathway.

The community will be doing all the work and volunteers are being recruited for a working party for one weekend in September.

Look out for more details or contact the development company at wacdc.info@gmail.com.
