The Oban Times

Best of the West 2017

-

MUSIC, food and drink – the Best of the West will be on show at BOWFest 2017, and with buses running from Oban, there’s never been a better time to attend Scotland’s finest boutique festival.

On September 8, 9 and 10, the grounds of Inveraray Castle will welcome lovers of Highland culture from all around the world for the seventh annual Best of the West Festival. If you are going to be there, why not check out all the other great things Inveraray has to offer!

Inveraray is one of the first planned towns and has survived remarkably well in its original 18th-century street plan. It has many attractive and architecturally important buildings, many of which are A-listed.

Nowadays, Inveraray is vibrant little town, with cheerful white-harled buildings, a sparkling waterfront, world class shops and cosy cafés. Time your visit to Inveraray well, and you could hear the changes rung from All Saints Bell Tower, which houses the second heaviest peal of 10 bells in the world (change ringing is the technique of rotating each bell through 360 degrees using a rope and wheel). Or catch the sound of the championship Inveraray and District Pipe Band, which occasionally rehearses outdoors on the waterfront. Nothing stirs the soul quite like the sound of bagpipes and drums floating over the loch!
