Thousands of pounds raised for Macmillan

-

PEOPLE in Oban, Lorn and the Isles have raised – and probably put on – thousands of pounds from coffee mornings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff at The Oban Times were spoiled for choice after a banquet of food that would test anyone’s sweet tooth was brought in.

After posting a photograph of our spread onto social media, news flooded in of organisations and individuals who also took part.

Betty Mackenzie informed us that staff at Oban High School raised a total of £772, adding: ‘cakes were amazing,’ and also said the First Connel Rainbows raised £288.

Jane Traynor said more than £700 was raised in Tobermory, while Donna Mackenzie said staff at Lorn and the Isles Hospital collected a total of £620. Mhari Gibb wrote that Tesco Oban raised £400, and Rachael Turnbull said Soroba Young Family Group raised a total of £301 through a coffee morning along with The Great Soroba Bake Off.

Kathleen Cole said: ‘My daughter Keira, who has just turned 13, held one yesterday and did all the homemaking herself. She raised £46 - very proud of her.’

Margaret MacDougall from Margaret’s Childcare and Katy Pollock from Katy’s Kids held a joint coffee morning.

‘Four of the older children in our care helped out asking guests if they’d like tea or coffee, and cake,’ Katy said. ‘With grateful thanks to everyone who baked and donated we managed to raise an amazing £190.00.’
