Traffic congestion in Oban remains a hot topic, with renewed calls for a bypass being made on our Facebook page.

Sarah Clarke posted: ‘Yes !! Been discussed for so long - now with the volume of traffic increasing , it’s been desperately needed !’

Scott Gibson agreed: ‘Yes, but perhaps a good start would be to provide some decent car parking (small multi storey?) and possibly some better retailing on the north side of the town so as to stop some of the traffic from having to go directly through the town to get to the retail offer on the south side.’ Karen MacPherson offered: ‘Yes! Park and ride would help too.’

Lilian Kermode remembered: ‘this was prposed at least 25 years ago time something got done about it.,and I dont mean discussions.’

John Mather cautioned: ‘Be careful what you wish for, bypasses do bring less traffic to the road but also bring less traffic & footfall to local businesses. When shops & business start closing leaving empty units its an irreversible cycle.’

John Michael Gallacher wrote: ‘According to recent comments, Argyll and Bute council doesn’t have a magic money tree. But yes it’s badly needed.’ Lewis Maclachlan urged: ‘Yes and build it now!’

Stewart McIver said: Yes about 20 years ago.’

Graeme Livingstone warned: ‘Don’t do it! Fort William has never recovered since it took traffic away from the Main Street.’

Bob Young suggested: ‘Oban also needs a car park. Very badly.’ Rosemary Hunter concurred: ‘I think you have hit the nail on the head ...how many of those cars are tourists looking for a parking space.’

Davie Gibson said: ‘Definitely.’
