Former Fort hero helps sink his old club in 5-0 defeat

-

FORMER Fort William marksman John McLeod put his old club to the sword as the Lochaber outfit continue their struggle for points.

McLeod scored two quickfire second half goals for defending champions Buckie Thistle, helping them record a 5-0 victory over a Fort William side that now has 11 league defeats in 12 matches.

The Fort travelled to Buckie with a squad still stretched with absences and injuries, most notably the captain Iain Foggo.

The visitors were intent on keeping things tight at the back and the defence managed to hold off the Buckie forwards for the first 45 minutes of the match. Keeping them at bay for the full 90 minutes proved to be a much harder task for the Lochaber side.

And it was their former goal hero McLeod who made all the difference. After being substituted on in the second half it didn’t take long for McLeod to get his first on the hour mark. This sparked a goalscoring spree for the Jags as an own goal five minutes later doubled their advantage.

McLeod got on the scoresheet once more just two minutes later while Callum Murray continued the Buckie onslaught. The home time were 4-0 up in the space of 12 minutes.

With just five minutes left to play, Steven Ross added Buckie’s fifth, adding to the Fort’s miserable afternoon.

Super sub John McLeod was rightly named man of the match with a stand-out performance and continues his prolific record in front of goal in the Highland League, much to the annoyance of former employers Fort William.

The win moves Buckie into fourth position while the Fort remain bottom of the table without a win so far this season.

Fort William host Clachnacuddin at Claggan Park in the league next week and will be looking to make amends for that 8-0 defeat last week.
