DALMALLY – United Auctions held a special sale of all classes of lambs and heep at Dalmally Auction Mart on Friday October 6 when they had 3,208 forward. All classes sold in keeping with current market levels.

FORT WILLIAM – Dingwall & Highland Marts on Thursday October 5 sold 1,783 store sheep of all classes. Lambs (1,021) sold to £54 gross for a pair of Texel crosses from East Croft Roy, Newtonmore. Ewes (695) sold to £60 gross for a pen of Charollais crosses from 63 Ormiscaigb­eag, Kilchoan. Feeding sheep (67) sold to £76 gross for a pen of Charollais cross gimmers from 63 Ormiscaigb­eag.

STORNOWAY – Dingwall & Highland on Tuesday October 3 sold 128 weaned calves and store cattle, seven breeding cattle and 14 OTM cattle at their annual show and sale. Prior to the sale the judge Mr B Duffton awarded the following: Overall champion and first prize bullock Mr A Macleod, 16 Upper Barvas, 274kg, £660. Reserve champion and second prize bullock Mr C D Macmillan, Lower Barvas, 349kg, £820.

First prize heifer Mr A Maclean, 100 Cross Skigersta Road, 287kg, £600. Second prize heifer Mr A Maclean, 100 Cross Skigersta Road, 283kg, £620.

Weaned bullocks (69) averaged 207.5p and sold to 248.7p for a 193kg Limousin cross from 11 Garyvard, Lochs and £830 gross for a 343kg Charolais cross from 100 Cross Skigersta Road.

Weaned heifers (48) averaged 194.0p and sold to 304.1p for a 171kg Beef Shorthorn from 7/8 Northton, Isle of Harris and £690 gross (twice) for a 322kg Limousin cross from Cloverdale, 25 Lower Barvas and also for a 343kg Aberdeen Angus cross from 13 Cross Skigersta Road, Ness. Store bullocks (8) averaged 175.6p and sold to 202.7p for a 439kg Charolais cross from 100 Cross Skigersta Road and £920 gross for a 483kg Charolais cross also from 100 Cross Skigersta Road.

Store heifers (3) averaged 112.4p and sold to 171.9p and £660 gross for a 384kg Charolais cross from 50 North Tolsta, Isle of Lewis. Breeding cattle (7) sold to £930 for an Aberdeen Angus cross cow in calf due March to a Simmental Bull from 21 Ballantruh­al, Isle of Lewis. OBAN – United Auctions held the annual October show and sale of spring-born suckled calves at Oban Livestock Centre when they were favoured with an entry of 849 head.

A good selection of predominan­tly hill-reared calves was presented to a large following of buyers, many making their first visit to the centre. Pre-sale judge was Tom Cochrane, East Balscalloc­h, Stranraer, who made the following awards. Bullock calf: 1st and reserve overall: D MacDonald, Tyree: Limousin – 354kilos £970 to F Connoly, Fife; 2nd A MacGillivr­ay, Achuran: Limousin – 396kilos £1010 to F Connoly; 3rd D MacCormick, Baligarve: Limousin – 444kilos £990 to D Low, Pittenkerr­ie.

Heifer calf: 1st and overall champion: D MacDonald, Tyree: BRB Cross – 418kilos £1200 to R Nelson, Cuttlehill Farm; 2nd M/s Campbell, Achnacreeb­eg: Limousin – 370kilos £930 to T Cochrane; 3rd M/s Campbell, Strongorm: Limousin – 286kilos £790 to Angle Park Fmg.
