Book Week Scotland goes down a treat in Oban

Oban was bustling with all things literary last weekend, with a series of events taking place for Scottish Book Week.

Renowned crime writer Christopher Brookmyre launched his latest book Places in the Darkness in the Corran Halls on Thursday night.

Children’s author Alan Windram was in Waterstone’s on Saturday morning, entertaining youngsters and parents alike.

The Lorn Resource Centre welcomed the author, storyteller and poet Renita Boyle.

Renita amused the centre’s discussion group, who themselves are no strangers to writing stories.

Each year, the group enters the Scottish Book Trust’s themed competition – with this year’s topic being Nourish.

The group came up with nine original stories and poems about their favourite food.

One story titled Tikka by Lachie Johnston has been chosen to be featured in the trust’s e-book.

Other notable events that took place in Oban for Scottish Book Week include talks by authors Mary Whithall, Graeme Macrae Burnet, Linsday Campbell, and a hip-hop workshop by rapper turned author Darren ‘Loki’ McGarvey.
