Whyte continues good form with points victory in Motherwell

-

TEENAGE boxer Cameron Whyte, from Spean Bridge, continued his good form last Friday night at Motherwell’s civic centre where he defeated formidable Forgewood opponent Alec MacDonald at the aforementioned club’s 30th year anniversary show.

The two young fighters had taken part in a breathtaking bout last month in Fort William which Cameron won on points, so the older MacDonald was gunning for revenge in his home town show.

Fifteen-year-old Whyte immediately took control of the centre of the ring in the opening round as MacDonald skirted the outside looking to flash in and out of range.

This was a very even which could have gone way on the score cards.

Whyte upped his game in the next round as he forced the taller MacDonald on to the ropes in the majority of the rounds. The Lochaber boxer’s superior strength and inside work gave him an advantage which he was only too keen to exploit as he drove bent arm punches to body and head. MacDonald was still dangerous on the occasions he managed to utilise his straight shots but it was a clear round for the Lochaber boxer.

Whyte was now into a rhythm and, while he never quite hit the peaks he is capable of reaching, he was getting enough points in the bag to ensure he was always keeping ahead of the talented MacDonald. The final bell rang with the Motherwell boxer fittingly with his back to the ropes as Cameron continued to pressurise right to the end and claim a points victory.

Whyte was also awarded with the best away boxer of the night trophy which was judged by the boxing officials. This was a real feather in his cap as the 16 bouts featured a wealth of Scottish, GB and Ulster champions. round either
