Youth squads enjoy first football festival

-

FORT William Football Club youth squads hosted their first indoor football festival at the Nevis Centre on Saturday February 3.

The primary three teams kicked off the event which saw four Oban Rovers teams and one team from Lochnell FC attending, while Fort William made up three teams from their squad.

With the main aim of the festival to foster player development and encourage fun and participation, the format for the festival was four aside with no goalies and no scores were recorded. The teams all played each other and in the two hours there was lots of playing time, plenty of goals and fantastic football talent on show.

In the afternoon it was the primary fours’ turn to shine and they didn’t disappoint. Another team from Lochnell, a select team from south Lochaber, a team from Acharacle FC and two Fort William youth teams competed in this section.

The format for this was five-aside with a goalkeeper, no scores recorded. Again the boys had two hours of football and played each other twice. Fantastic football was on show and supporters were fully entertained.

The older three Fort youth teams were in action on Sunday, meaning almost 70 local boys participated in organised football this weekend.

To run a youth system like this takes commitment from everyone involved and funding. If any local businesses would like to sponsor any of the club’s youth teams, any donation will be gratefully received. Anyone who would like to know more, please get in touch with Danny Conlon, youth development officer, who can be contacted at the Nevis Centre.
