Unlicensed air weapon

-

A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been found guilty of possessing an air weapon without a certificate.

Joseph Miller, of 43 Rhuvaal Road, Oban, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared in Oban Sheriff Court on Monday March 12.

When police found the weapon on April 14 of last year, Miller said he simply had not got round to applying for the certificate.

His defence solicitor, Kevin McGinnes, said his client was a former army cadet and trained in the use of fire arms.

Sheriff Patrick Hughes said: ‘It does not matter how familiar someone is. Air weapons should be licensed.

‘If you don’t have one, you can’t have one of these weapons.’

Sheriff Hughes deferred the matter for three months good behaviour.
