Workshops will focus on books
THE IONA Abbey Library Project is bringing two exciting workshops to Oban.
A book conservation workshop will be held on Wednesday April 11 from 11am to 2.30pm at Atlantis Leisure, with conservator Fiona Anderson.
At this free, drop-in event those taking part can make and decorate their own book, learn techniques for cleaning and repairing older tomes and bring their own poorly books to a ‘first aid’ corner.
Anyone attending a similar event on Saturday May 12, from 11am to 4pm, also at Atlantis, will be able to create a handmade book based on the inspiring Celtic designs found in the project’s heritage collection. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated – gelli plate printing, stencils, textural rubbings, paper piercing and paper craft. Experienced book craft artisan Jo Caskie will share her expertise in paper folding, stitching and rolling techniques to create a finished article.
This workshop is aimed at those aged 16 and over and there is a suggested donation of £5 to take part. Space is limited so pre-booking is essential. Email toben@ tobenlewis.com or call 07522 767121.
