Race to register for Crinan Puffer places

-

THE RACE is on to register for the next big event on Argyll’s athletics calendar.

Organisers of the Scottish Sea Farms Crinan Puffer, an eightmile, point-to-point race along the bank of the Crinan Canal, are looking for entrants for this year’s event on Sunday April 22.

The race, promoted by Mid Argyll Athletics Club, has been held as a fundraiser for Mid Argyll Community Pool since 2010, when the pool faced closure.

This year, runners have a chance to earn back their entry fee, by raising £55 or more for the swimming pool.

The race is held under UK Athletics rules and is a Scottish athletics-licensed event.

There are five categories: juniors aged 16-17, seniors aged 18-39, veterans aged 40-49, super veterans aged 50-59, and vintage, aged 60 and over.

Many Argyll athletes participated in last year’s event, with Campbeltown Running Club’s Jennifer Martin coming first in the senior ladies’ race, and Stuart McGeachy, also of CRC, runner-up in the senior men’s contest. An event spokesperson said: ‘We look forward to welcoming race participants old and new this year.’

More details about this year’s event, including a timetable, can be found by visiting www. crinanpuffer.co.uk.
