Easter weekend excitement - and lots to do in Oban

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

EASTER weekend is here with all the excitement it brings, especially for children.

I’ve always thought of Easter as a family time, much like Christmas, where those who live in other parts of the country return home to be together and the church celebrations of a risen Christ tie in with all the new life springing up around us. It’s a lovely, joyful time of year.

There is also so much to do at this time of year, from the Oban High School Pipe Band Concert tonight (Thursday) in the Corran Halls to the Easter Funday in Waterstones on Saturday from 10am to 11am.

Events in the Rockfield Centre include a Lego Masterbuilders Club from 10am to 11am and Sand Art from 2pm till 4pm and the Sealife Centre at Barcaldine has its Chocolate Easter Egg-stravaganza at 12.30pm on Sunday.

Dunstaffnage also has an Easter Explorer Trail from Friday until Monday and we have Dunollie re-opening on Friday just in time for a really busy weekend.

Last week’s column has prompted some lovely replies from people who have moved to Oban and love living here, despite the weather.

Martin moved here from Hong Kong. It has been a huge change and he loves it. Alan, who has lived here for so long I thought he was born and brought up in Oban, is actually from the United States. His message brought back lovely memories of the Argyll Hotel and the Gateway in my youth, long, long ago.

I’m still eager to hear from everyone locals, visitors or even people who would like to be local. Whatever your experiences of Oban, it makes for some interesting conversations.

Last week’s photograph was taken at The Lorne in Stevenson Street and this week’s isn’t too far away.
