The Real Robert!

-

WHAT a lovely day I had last week in Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu (the Glasgow Gaelic School) listening to rehearsals for their concert last Thursday and, in particular, to primary two’s rendition of a Gaelic translation of my and Angus MacPhail’s song, Walking on the Waves.

I hear the concert went extremely well and that is no surprise to me now that I have seen first hand the enthusiasm of the children and teachers for singing Gaelic songs.

One young lad in particular made me laugh when he ran up to me and asked if I was the real Robert. Caught slightly off guard and unsure how to react, I hesitantly nodded some kind of confirmation.

‘Wow!’ he exclaimed. ‘I thought you were dead!’

Again, I laughed, and he ran off leaving me totally confused but equally amused.

Later that evening, I heard from one of the teachers that the young lad had actually thought I was none other than Robert Burns!
