Small business premises boost for Mull
AFTER 10 years’ work by Mull and Iona Community Trust, construction of the Tobermory Light Industrial Park started last month.
A lack of storage and small business premises was first brought to the attention of the trust by a resident who had outgrown operating his business from home.
This initial development will provide a total of 500 square metres of storage compounds, 274 sq m of self storage, eight 30 sq m lock-ups, two 60 sq m business starter units and 940 sq m of development site(s) available for lease.
Project officer Mairi Greig said: ‘It’s great to finally bring this project to fruition, providing a range of storage options for recreational and business use, in addition to small business premises, enabling business start-up and expansion.
‘Thanks to everyone who has completed surveys, attended meetings and the voluntary members of the project steering group who have championed this project.’
The construction work will be carried out by TSL Contractors Ltd and is expected to be completed by March 2019.
Andrew Knight, managing director, said: ‘This is a great project which will provide modern facilities for businesses based in the north of Mull.’
The project is supported by Scottish Government and COSLA’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Argyll and Bute Council and Shanks Argyll and Bute through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.
Jennifer Nicoll, Argyll and the Islands area manager for HIE, said: ‘We are delighted to have worked with Mull and Iona Community Trust to help it develop this exciting project which will create opportunities for businesses to start up and grow.
‘Tobermory Light Industrial Park will be a valuable community asset for Tobermory and Mull and we look forward to seeing the impacts it creates.’
