A picture of a rat clinging to a clothesline in a Soroba garden as it tried to get to a bird feeder prompted a response on Facebook. John Muir: ‘This three-weekly uplift does concern folks putting waste food in bins...bag it and bin it...chucking waste food unbagged into green bins does cause rats and most of all MAGGOTS!!! Don’t moan...get together and help with the problem as young kids could get serious infections...so come on people of bonnie Oban...bag the waste foods and bin it...keep your community tidy and SAFE.’

Peggy Baker: ‘Putting food out for the birds encourages rats – birds can find their own food.’

James Strang: ‘Disgusting brought on by our lazy councillors and the silly way they set up bin collections.’ Samantha Leiper: ‘Sorry but not surprised – when I was up in the last couple of weeks the bins were severely over-flowing, all bins were full and people had chucked their rubbish next to the bins...granted not all people can take their rubbish to the dump or afford to pay someone to do a dump run...it’s a disgrace especially with amount of kids that stay up there.’

John Murphy: ‘There will always be rats, we live in the countryside.’

The installation of new crash barriers on the A85 between Oban and Dunbeg has been the subject of comment.

Varinia Thompson: ‘So, new barrier, what about the potholes?’

Muir Templeton: ‘Yes to the houses but when that road meets the Oban main road what happens? You need a bypass as when all the 750 houses are finished it will be grid lock. I sussed this out. Your planners have not got a clue – it’s a bottle neck when you hit Oban and all the traffic. Will be big stand stills specially when the tourists come. Hey I work on big road projects all over UK and the first thing they do is make main roads wider, bypass put in to stop congestion. ‘

Duncan Campbell: ‘Should have been a 40mph limit all the way out to Connel, wouldn’t have needed the barriers.’ Duncan Ferguson: ‘Are they nuts?i came through at 3 from Dunbeg side and there were five cars behind me yet the traffic Oban side was backed into town! Sort it out! No wonder people are jumping lights!’

Neil Mcgurk: ‘Nice looking barrier.’
