OBAN’S newest boy band ‘The Three Buskerteers’ raised more than smiles when they put on a spontaneous street show for Oban’s Hope Kitchen.

The three ‘wee angels’ warmed the hearts of passers-by and drivers in Breadalbane Street who stopped to listen and throw coins their way.

Brothers Lachie, 7, Caley, 5, and three-year-old Sorley D’Arcy raised more than £29 in three hours which bought three bags of shopping for the charity that has more than 200 people a week coming through its doors.

The musical trio had originally intended to do chores around the house to buy kazoos from Oban Music shop until Lachie struck on the idea to go busking for charity instead.

Dad Sean D’Arcy said: ‘Three kazoos in the house would have been rather loud in an already noisy house so there was happy relief when they decided to help out Hope.

‘Their mum already supports Hope. She thinks it’s a great charity so that’s where they got the idea. We’re more than proud of our boys.’

A fourth buskerteer – baby brother Murdo, one – also got in on the act trying to sing along.

Giving the band’s first exclusive interview Lachie, who is also writing his own songs, said: ‘We’ll do it again’.

The tune that raked in the most donations was The Dubliner’s Molly Malone. ‘People really liked that one,’ added Lachie who, along with his band of brothers, kept the busking going – even in rain showers.

Hope Kitchen’s service manager Lorraine MacCormick told The Oban Times: ‘Our hearts were melted by the kindness of these three wee boys.’

A Facebook post by Hope thanking the boys attracted more than 460 likes with comments from others including: ‘Top lads. Kindness is the best attribute to have’, ‘Well done boys for spreading kindness and happiness’, ‘Very inspirational and so thoughtful!’ and ‘Wee superstars’.

Ms MacCormick said the charity’s supply of tinned food had been running low which prompted a recent appeal. Donations have also come in from Tesco shoppers and the Northern Lighthouse Board.

‘The response from the community has been amazing. We were particularly short of tinned meals. We’ll be putting it all to good use,’ she added.
