Stepping out on first Oban walking tours
FOLLOWING the successful completion of an intense training course, two of Oban’s new guides had the honour of hosting the town’s first walking tour.
Michelle McAnally Woods and Linda Battison, along with their trusty shepherd’s crooks, treated a handful of participants to a free 90-minute guided walk last Thursday.
Over the next week, free tours will take place to allow the guides to practice their patter in preparation for the summer, when the tours will take place daily.
Oban now boasts 12 certified guides, who all completed a two-week training course with Scottish Tourist Guides Association instructors Patricia Blain and Stewart Wood.
The initiative was a collaboration between Bid4Oban and Port of Oban Cruise Group.
With many cruise ships booked to visit Oban, the organisations wanted to enhance visitors’ experiences.
Elaine Robertson, chairwoman of the Port of Oban Cruise Group, said: ‘These are exciting times for the cruise group and establishing Yellow Badge Certified Guides to show off our town will keep Oban one step ahead in providing an excellent tourist experience.’
