Fund vote winners
AFTER a public vote, nearly 60 projects have won funding from Argyll and Bute Council’s Supporting Communities Fund.
Earlier this year, local groups and organisations posted their project ideas on a website created specifically for the fund, of how they could use potential funding of up to £2,500 per project to benefit the local community. There are four funds available – one for each council administrative area.
In April, residents were given the chance to vote for which projects they would like to see funded. A total of 4,686 people voted and voting closed at midnight on April 30.
The projects that received the most votes and will be funded are, in Oban, Lorn and the Isles: Argyll Riding For the Disabled (RDA) Carriage Driving Group - Driving for Success, 10-Year Plan for Benderloch, Bonawe, Barcaldine, North Connel, Bookends Book Festival Pop Ups, Crossroads North Argyll Reminiscence Project, Dalmally: Developing Healthy Communities, Feis Bheag, Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival, Kilts and Tartan Ties for Rockfield Primary School Choir, Making Waves in Marine Science at Mull Aquarium, Master Builders: Creative Construction and Lego Club, Mull Music Makers, Music and Movement at North Argyll House, Oban Community Senory Garden Art Project, Oban Mod Academy, and Oban Youth Café Monday Club.
The following were successful in Mid Argyll, Kintyre and the Islands: Fèis an Tairbeirt, Islay and Jura Youth Wind Band, Islay House Community garden, Kintyre Youth Café, Loch Fyne Pipe Band, Jura’s Save Our Lunch Club, Tarbert – Our Castle of Kings, Tarbert Academy Forest Friends, Islay’s Community Bus running costs, the Wildlife and Heritage Youth Project on the Crinan Canal and Blarbuie Woodland Enterprise.
The remaining money will be offered to the group next in line in each area to receive funding but could not be fully funded.
The council’s policy lead for communities, Councillor Robin Currie: ‘We thank everyone who submitted an application and took the time to vote.
‘This year we have piloted a new approach and encouraged the people of Argyll and Bute to decide what projects should receive funding. This money will make a huge difference to community groups and organisations.’
