Isle of Mull RFC hosts youth rugby festival
MORE than 200 mini and youth rugby players descended on Isle of Mull RFC’s picturesque Garmony pitches for the club’s annual end of season festival.
Local sides Isle of Mull, Oban Lorne, Etive Vikings and Lochaber were joined by annual touring club and Argyll neighbours Helensburgh RFC along with Strathendrick RFC who toured to Mull for the first time.
In keeping with the positive ethos of the game of rugby, Isle of Mull awarded a ‘Fairplay’ trophy to the best sporting teams at each age group. The winners on the day chosen by Mull 1st XV captain Sean Black were P4/5 Helensburgh RFC, P6/7 Strathendrick RFC, S1/2 Oban Lorne RFC.
Argyll and Bute Rugby Development Officer Allan Wright commented: ‘All of the teams in attendance showed a fantastic attitude and commitment towards the game.
‘All the players, coaches and supporters were a credit to their respective clubs. We have had a fantastic day with over 200 players involved in some outstanding rugby. Well done Isle of Mull RFC for putting on a great day.’
Mini rugby teams in the region have two further festivals before the end of this season. On Sunday Lochaber RFC will host their festival, while Etive Vikings conclude the season hosting at Taynuilt on Sunday May 20.
