LOCHALSH branch of Legion Scotland raised £222 for its funds at a bingo session in Balmacara House on Wednesday April 25.

TWO SKIPS were filled during the annual village cleanup, organised by Plockton and District Community Council, on Saturday April 28.

PLOCKTON Drama Club won through to the Scottish Drama Finals at East Kilbride on Thursday April 19 with their play Thank you for Protesting by Paul Adam Levy. The producer was Gill James. Although unplaced, they enjoyed their trip.

THE ANNUAL cruise on Calum’s boat was held on Saturday April 7 in aid of prostate cancer research and in memory of Alastair Bruce, who died 10 years ago.

The cruise raised £1,460 and the Bruce family have decided to distribute £500 to prostate cancer research; £200 to the Chest, Heart and Stroke Associatio­n, £200 to Kyleakin Connection­s, £200 to Lochalsh Junior Pipe Band's Belfast trip, £200 to Friends of Broadford Hospital and £160 to Plockton Youth Drama.

CHARLIE M Macrae celebrated his 80th birthday with a party in the village hall on Tuesday April 17.

More than 100 villagers attended, with music from the Cameron brothers from Glenelg. Donations, instead of presents, totalled £614.65 which went to the Lochalsh branch of Legion Scotland. Charlie received 110 birthday cards.

ON MONDAY April 9, Plockton said farewell to wellknown villagers Hugh and Margaret MacQuarrie who have moved to Glasgow after 36 years in the village.

Both were teachers at Plockton High School. Hugh was also manager at Lochalsh Leisure Centre and latterly owned Kyle petrol station. He played football, rugby, badminton and cricket, and later became involved in the administra­tion of these sports.

Margaret was a keen badminton player and a long-serving member of Strath Gaelic Choir. They received many gifts from various organisati­ons before they left. The good wishes of the community go with them in their new life. They will be much missed, in particular in the local sporting world.

THERE were 2.7 inches of rain in Plockton in April following 2.41 in March. There were 13 dry days. The warmest day was 18.7C and the coldest night was -0.4.
