Lochaber take fifth spot in Highland team squash event
FOUR members of Lochaber Squash Club travelled to Gordonstoun School, Moray, on Saturday to take part in the Highlands and Islands Squash Association team championships.
Alan Love, at number one, played first and, despite a valiant effort, lost his opening match. Ian Black also lost his first match of the day. The only player to win his match in the first round was Archie MacGillivray.
Lance Marshall, at number four, met his old adversary, William Jappy, and was beaten by a constant barrage of lobs and drops.
And so to round two and this time MacGillivray was the only one to lose his match. Marshall played first and quickly disposed of his opponent, with Black also beating his next opponent. Although MacGillivray lost his match, he did win a game. These results meant the Lochaber team was 5-2 up. Love sweated out his match and came away with a victory, although it didn’t matter at this stage of the round.
In the final match to decide placings, Love, MacGillivray and Marshall won their matches. Unfortunately, Black lost his match against David Taylor, who has been capped for Scotland.
Lochaber Squash Club finished fifth overall and the day was capped off by a dinner and prize giving at Forres Golf Club, where Marshall had another win – a bottle of malt whisky in the raffle.
