WELCOME TO GIGHA
GIGHA
They called it God’s island, in Gaelic, because it is heavenly.
The island that practically wrote the rule book for community buy-outs, its mild and sunny micro-climate makes for a lush green island and the famous Achamore Gardens, and makes lots of lovely pasture for the island’s dairy cows.
Check out: Good store and post office; the Wee Dairy, milk in glass bottles and ice-cream from the island’s own cows; great hotel and restaurant; Gigha oysters and halibut. Arts, crafts, its own natural skincare range and a range of orchid essences sold around the world. Annual music festival. The journey:
The island has only two roads; it is around six miles long and one-and-a-half wide so why not leave the car at Tayinloan and walk and cycle?
Hopscotch: The Tayinloan route is the island’s only ferry, from there head to Campbeltown, Kennacraig, Claonaig or Tarbert.
