Pupils come under starters orders
READY, STEADY, GO!
Youngsters from five primary schools recently teamed up for fun and games.
Pupils at Kilchrenan Primary School had the task of organising this year’s sports day, which was hosted by Strath of Appin Primary School.
Others schools taking part in the event included Barcaldine, Achaleven and Lismore.
The theme was Ozzie Animal Games to mark it being the year of the Gold Coast Commonweath Games in Australia.
Kilchrenan teacher Elaine MacInnes said: ‘It’s been our turn to organise this year. The pupils came up with all the games themselves and made the instruction cards. They’ve done very well and how lucky are we that the sun is shining!’
Games included Down Under where teams had to pass a ball up and over as many times as they could against five minutes on the clock and then Kangeroo Jump - better known as long jump.
Team names were Emu, Koala, Wallaby, Dingo and spiny anteater Echidna.
Lismore teacher Catherine Davies said: ‘We only have 11 children at our school so it’s lovely to come here and join in bigger games. It’s a great social occasion.
‘We set a challenge for our children to get to know three new people, find out their names and something about them. It’s a good way of getting some of them ready for high school to make new friends.’
Mum Sophia Steuart was just one of the spectators watching the games on Wednesday morning. She was there with two-year-old son William, who was helping her cheer on his sisters Georgina and Cecilia.
