FORT WILLIAM – Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd on Friday May 25 sold 124 store cattle, 17 OTM cattle, 12 adult head of breeding cattle, and 670 sheep.

Bullocks (29) averaged 255.6p and sold to 300.0p per kilo for a pair of 260kg Charolais crosses from Moy Farm, Banavie, and £1,010 gross a 390kg Limousin cross from Balmaglast­er, Spean Bridge, (Cameron). Heifers (94) averaged 210.8p and sold to 270.0p per kilo for a 200kg Whitebred Shorthorn cross from 6 Blaich, Fort William, and £1,130 gross for a 630kg Aberdeen Angus cross from 2 Unachan, Spean Bridge. Young bull (one) sold to 166.7p per kg and £300 gross for a Highland cross from Jorodon, Banavie.

OTM cattle (17) averaged 131.2p and sold to 165.0p per kilo for an 517kg Simmental cross from Mucomir Farm, Spean Bridge, and £1,010 gross (twice) for a 745kg Shorthorn cross and a 745kg Simmental cross from Moy Farm.

Breeding cattle (12) sold to £1,450 gross for a Simmental cross cow with twin calves at foot from Moy Farm.

Store lambs (252) averaged £40.93 and sold to £90 gross for a Cheviot from Craigard, Kilchoan.

Ewes with lambs at foot (126) sold to £172 gross for Cheviot ewes with Cross lambs at foot from Balmaglast­er (Cameron). Feeding ewes (260) averaged £43.09 and sold to £91 gross for a pen of Blackfaces from Glendoe Estate, Fort Augustus. STIRLING – Caledonian Marts Ltd on Thursday May 24 sold 189 cattle, comprising 94 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 64 cast cows and bulls, and 31 calves. All classes met a bouyant trade, and more could have been sold. Topping the sale in both sections was W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn at 262ppkg for a Limousin heifer and 252ppkg for a Limousin bullock purchased by R Brown and Son, Butchers, Stenhousem­uir and T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk and to £1,664 from Ferguson Bros, Gillanders­land, Linlithgow.
